Walk-in Therapy Clinics provide free single-session therapy on a drop-in basis. Our clinic offers quick access to therapeutic conversations for individuals, caregivers, and families with a concern about a child up to 18 years of age.
What to expect:
The therapy session is usually around 1 hour. When you arrive there is a little bit of paperwork that our onsite navigator can help you with. Once complete, you meet with a Therapist in a private and safe setting. This is a time to have a conversation, to share what you are concerned about, what you know that works a bit already, and to explore ideas to try out or different ways to look at things that may be useful.
Therapists ask lots of questions but you can let them know if you don’t want to answer or are not sure what to say. They will also ask your permission to take notes on a conversation summary and will offer you a copy before you leave. This document will note your ideas and next steps to try out when you leave.
Can I come back?
Yes, you can come back to the walk-in as needed. Sometimes your action plan might need fine tuning or sometimes you might want to talk about something different.
Can I come to the Walk-In Clinic without my parents? Will they find out?
If you are 12 or older, you may access the Walk-In Clinic without parental consent. If you do not want
your parents to know, we will not tell them.
Custody/Access Note: For families in which there is a joint custody situation and the child is under 12 years old, we endeavor to respect the rights of both parents and we will work to be transparent with both parents. This includes extending an invitation to both custodial parents to have input and share information. For children 12 and younger we may need permission of both custodial parents to see your child.
Please note: This is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know up to 18 years old and their families/caregivers is experiencing a crisis please call the Child & Youth Crisis Service at 1-866-327-3224 to receive immediate telephone support.
